A practical alarm in your browser toolbar
Alarm Clock for Chrome
A free browser extension that keeps alarms scheduled when its popup is closed.
Set a reminder from the Chrome toolbar, then get back to your work. The alarm is handled by Chrome in the background, so the extension popup does not need to stay open.

Browser alarm vs extension: what changes
The online alarm is fastest for a one-off reminder. The extension keeps its own schedule in Chrome, so you can close the alarm popup and continue using other tabs.
| What you need | Online alarm clock | Chrome extension |
|---|---|---|
| Use other tabs | Rings while its page stays open | Rings while Chrome is running |
| Close the alarm page or popup | The page must stay open | The popup can be closed |
| Quit Chrome completely | No ring while the browser is closed | A missed alarm is not guaranteed to ring later |
| Computer sleeps or shuts down | Cannot wake the computer | Cannot wake the computer; a reminder may be delayed |
| Where alarm details are stored | In this browser for the online clock | In Chrome's local extension storage |
| Setup | Open the alarm page | Install once, then use the toolbar |
Both are free. Choose the web alarm when you want to set one quickly and can keep its page open. Choose the extension when you want your scheduled alarm separate from an open website tab.
How to install the Chrome alarm clock
Add the extension from its Chrome Web Store listing, then open it from the toolbar whenever you want to set or manage an alarm.
- 01
Open the Chrome Web Store listing
Select “Add to Chrome,” review the requested permissions, and confirm with “Add extension.”
- 02
Pin the toolbar icon
Open Chrome’s Extensions menu (the puzzle-piece icon), then select the pin next to Online Alarm Clock for quick access.
- 03
Set your first alarm
Click the toolbar icon, choose a time, sound, and repeat option, then select “Set alarm.”
Alarm schedules and quick reminders are saved in Chrome on your device. They are not uploaded to our website.
How to set an alarm in the extension
The popup includes an alarm list, quick reminders, and a form for setting a new alarm.
- 1
Click the Online Alarm Clock icon in the Chrome toolbar to open the popup and view your local time and saved alarms.
- 2
Choose a time, or use a quick reminder such as +5, +10, or +30 minutes. Common time shortcuts are available too.
- 3
Choose once, every day, or weekdays. Add a short label such as “medicine” or “leave for school.”
- 4
Choose a sound, set the volume and snooze length, and select “Test sound” to check it before you save.
- 5
Select “Set alarm.” The alarm appears in your list, where you can edit it, pause it, or delete it.
What can still stop or delay a ring
Browser alarms depend on Chrome, your operating system, and audio settings. Use a second alarm for anything you cannot afford to miss.
Chrome is fully closed
Chrome must be running for an alarm to ring. A one-time alarm that passes while Chrome is closed is deactivated when Chrome starts again; the extension does not keep a missed-alarm history.
The computer is asleep or shut down
The extension cannot wake a sleeping or powered-off device. Chrome may handle an overdue reminder after the computer wakes, so use a phone alarm as a backup for overnight wake-ups.
Sound is muted or too quiet
Check the system volume and sound output. Use “Test sound” before relying on an alarm, especially with headphones or a muted computer.
Internet is unavailable
After installation, alarm scheduling and built-in sounds run locally in the browser and do not need an internet connection.

Set a reminder for a reading block, practice session, or the end of a timed exam review.
Desk work
Keep a meeting, stand-up, or end-of-day reminder scheduled while you move between tabs.
Daily reminders
Label a repeating weekday or daily alarm so it is easy to recognize in the popup.

Common questions
Chrome alarm extension FAQ
Is the Chrome alarm clock extension free?
Yes. The extension is free to install and use, with no account or sign-up step.
Does the alarm ring if I close the tab or popup?
Yes. Once set, Chrome schedules the alarm in the background. You can close the extension popup or the website tab; Chrome must remain running.
Does it ring if I quit Chrome?
No ring is guaranteed while Chrome is fully closed. If a one-time alarm passes during that time, the extension deactivates it when Chrome starts again instead of keeping a missed-alarm history.
Can it wake my computer from sleep?
No. A browser extension cannot wake a sleeping or powered-off computer. A reminder may be delayed until the computer wakes, so use a phone alarm for overnight wake-ups.
Do I need an account?
No. Install the extension and set an alarm from the toolbar. No sign-up is required.
How is it different from the online alarm clock?
The online alarm runs in its open page. The extension uses Chrome's background alarm scheduler, so its popup can close while Chrome is running.
Can I use it in Edge or Brave?
The Chrome Web Store listing and this extension are built for Chrome. Other Chromium browsers may support some Chrome extensions, but this project is only verified for Chrome.
How many alarms can I set?
You can add multiple alarms and manage each one in the popup. The extension does not show a fixed maximum in its interface.
Add the alarm clock to Chrome
Install once, set an alarm from the toolbar, and close the popup when you're done. Chrome needs to stay running for alarms to ring.
